State urged to take back land given to sports academy

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Congress Legislature Party has urged the Government to cancel registration of 400 acres of land given to IMG Bharata Academies Limited and another 450 acres alienated to it in Kancha Gachibowli village in Serilingampalli mandal of Ranga Reddy district by the TDP Government in 2003.

At a press conference here on Sunday, the Government Chief Whip, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, charged the previous TDP regime with selling valuable land belonging to the Hyderabad Central University to the proposed sports academy at throwaway price.

`Questionable' deal

Alleging that the deal was questionable, Mr. Reddy sought a CBI enquiry into the entire transaction and the haste with which the TDP Government alienated the land. Senior Congress legislator, G. Venkat Reddy, said what raised many an eye brow was the decision of the caretaker Government to sell 850 acres to IMGB for just Rs. 4.25 crores when the actual market rate was over Rs. 1,000 crores.
