Financial aid sought for prisoners freed from Pakistan jails
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
The CPI MP from Nalgonda S.Sudhakar Reddy has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to provide financial help to Indian prisoners who will be released from Pakistan jails on Monday.
Most of them are workers, fishermen and poor agricultural labourers and belong to the working class, he said in a letter to the Prime Minister, which was released here on Sunday.
The CPI leader wanted sanctioning of Rs.5,000 to each prisoner at the Wagah border on humanitarian consideration.
He said the prisoners should not feel abandoned at the border.
No welcome
"These poor people will usually have no money or friends to receive them."
He requested the PMO to depute the concerned officials to the border and hand over Rs.5,000 to every prisoner.
"This is very necessary for the dignity of the released prisoners who have been without any income for years together," he added.
