KOCHI: The Cochin Citizens' Forum at a recent meeting has told those who are contesting for the post of councillors in the City Corporation that they should resign if they failed to provide basic amenities to the residents. As per provisions in the Nagarpalika Bill passed by Parliament in 1992, which states the duties and privileges of the corporation authorities, the corporation should conduct the affairs of the city. The forum stressed that the corporation authorities should ensure that the city is cleaned daily and roads and bridges maintained using funds available to it. The forum alleged that the authorities have failed to discharge their duties. A statement from the forum, said that the corporation authorities have done little to maintain the roads in the city. The press release also said that in the past, the corporation had denied its citizens their due. The forum also said that that ward committees should be formed within three months of the formation of the new council.
