BANGALORE: The city unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has criticised Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh for his refusal to take the criticism by representatives of the information technology sector "in a positive way" and failing to make a commitment to address the issues raised by them. Spokesperson of the party S. Prakash said in a statement issued here on Sunday that the IT sector is justified in expressing disappointment over the "failure" of the Government to address the need to fix the crumbling infrastructure in the city. Instead of admitting that it is remiss on the Government's part to neglect it, Mr. Dharam Singh has countered them with his accusations that they are indulging in propaganda, Mr. Prakash said. The BJP said the past seven years have seen the tremendous growth of Bangalore, thanks to the IT sector. But the infrastructure development has only "progressed in the reverse direction." The increasing traffic, rise in the number of vehicles, and the burgeoning population have created chaos and the situation has become unmanageable, it added. The Chief Minister could not escape or deny the allegation that there is a failure on the part of the Government in rising to the challenge of improving the infrastructure on a war footing. The Government's lackadaisical attitude is evident from the fact that though the city needs a mass rapid transport system, the Congress is bending to the compulsions of coalition politics and delaying the start on the metro rail project, the press release said. Instead of addressing those issues, the coalition partners are only competing with each other in organising rallies and conventions, the statement added.
