Appan Menon award presented

NEW DELHI: The Appan Menon Memorial Award for 2005 has been conferred on M. Suchitra for her proposal `Socio-Economic Impact of the Proliferation of Special Economic Zones in India,' particularly on women workers. The award consists of a sum of Rs. 1 lakh. A development journalist with 16 years' experience in both print and television journalism, Ms. Suchitra is based in Kochi.

The Appan Menon Memorial Trust was set up in 1996 in memory of the eminent print and television journalist, and it oversees the annual award to a young or mid-career journalist to enable them to pursue a project in the field of international or local politics, development and other issues of social interest.
