Two more depose in bus burning case

Special correspondent

SALEM: : Two more witnesses — a lawyer and a journalist of a local daily — deposed before Salem First Additional District Sessions Judge D. Krishna Raja in the Dharmapuri bus burning trial here on Tuesday.

Karunanidhi, a DMK lawyer and secretary of the Dharmapuri Bar Association, residing at Ilakkiampatti in Dharmapuri at the time of the incident, identified 10 accused, who took part in the agitation leading to the incident. Another witness was Pandi, who was working as a reporter in a local daily.

Defence counsel Parthasarathy cross-examined the witnesses. The judge adjourned the trial to September 15.

Three girl students of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, were burnt alive when their bus was set ablaze by a mob at Ilakkiampatti in February 2000 after AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa was convicted in the Kodaikanal Pleasant Stay Hotel case.
