RBI officer drowns in China sea

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: G. Balagopal alias Shaji (32), an officer at the Reserve Bank of India in Mumbai, drowned in the sea off the Dahlia Tourist Centre in China, according to information reaching his relatives in Kerala.

Mr. Balagopal had gone to China on a training programme. He is the son of M.P. Gangadharan, former SP of Perungala Kuzhivelil Veedu in Kayamkulam, and nephew of the noted Malayalam writer, G. Vivekanandan.

He leaves behind his wife Dr. P.S. Reshmi and two- year-old son Vinayan.

The body is expected to be brought here later this week.
