Chemplast enters final

Sports Reporter

HYDERABAD: Chemplast bowled out KSCA in just 78 minutes to take the vital first innings lead to move into the final of the Coromandel King All India Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup invitation cricket tournament at Visaka International Stadium (Uppal) here on Tuesday.

Resuming at 122 for five in reply to Chemplast's 281, KSCA lost wickets at regular intervals. The first to go was Sudhindra Shinde (38, 83b, 5x4, 1x6) who was clean bowled by medium-pacer Avinash by a ball that kept low. The next to depart was Stuart Binny after a well-compiled 64 (118b, 4x4, 2x6). He was lured into a tentative stroke by Jesuraj only to be snapped up by Hemang Badani at first slip. Once these two departed, the Chemplast bowlers did not let the tail wag and skittled out KSCA for 161 in 68.1 overs.

Once the first innings lead was decided, the two captains Ajay Kudua and Sujith Somasunder of KSCA decided to call off play as the stipulated 40 overs each would be irrelevant.

India Cements advances

In the other semifinal between Hyderabad Cricket Association and India Cements at ECIL, the third and final day's play was abandoned due to wet ground conditions following heavy, overnight rain.

Consequently, India Cements, by virtue of grabbing the vital first innings lead after scoring 77 for six in reply to the home team's 76 on Monday, earned the right to take on Chemplast in the three-day final to be played at Visaka Stadium (Uppal) from September 15 to 17.

The scores: Semifinals: At Visaka Stadium (Uppal): Chemplast 281 drew with KSCA 161 in 68.1 overs (Stuart Binny 64).

Hyderabad 76 vs India Cements 77 for six.
