CHITTOOR: Unidentified persons on Tuesday attacked Gopinada Rao, BJP candidate for the 30th ward in Chittoor Municipality in the coming civic polls. Mr. Rao received knife injuries on his stomach. According to the victim's statement, the miscreants, speaking Tamil, attacked him at his residence early on Tuesday morning. They reportedly threatened to kill his son, too, unless he stopped his propaganda. He claimed he had also received threatening calls on Sunday. Telugu Desam Party leaders, who visited Mr. Rao in hospital, attributed the attack to Congress party workers. The BJP State vice-president, N.P. Venkatesh Chowdary, also alleged Congress party workers were involved in the incident and urged them to follow democratic principals during elections.
