Philips' new centre in Bangalore

KOLKATA: Philips Electronics India Ltd. (PEIL), formerly Philips India Ltd., is planning to set up a new software centre, north of Bangalore, adding two lakh sq. ft. of space and creating an employment of about 2,500 by 2007 from 1,500 now, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, K. Ramachandran, said.

Addressing reporters after the company's annual meeting, he said about $50 million would be spent on this new unit, which would also house the existing unit at Ulsoor in Bangalore. This would be among the six such centres worldwide run by the multinational.

Earlier addressing shareholders, the Chairman, S. M. Dutta, said 2004 was a good year for the company with strong growth in value and volumes in lighting, electronics and software.
