KOCHI: Though technology plays an important role in modern banking, a human face is necessary in the deals, said N.R. Achan, chairman of Catholic Syrian Bank and former General Manager of Bank of India. He was speaking at a function got up to mark the centenary celebrations of the Bank of India here on Saturday. The celebrations were inaugurated by Vic-Chancellor of Sree Sankara University of Sanskrit K.S. Radhakrishnan. The bank honoured two of its customers, Kathaprasnagom artiste Kedamangalam Sadanandan and Kathakali singer Kalamandalam Hyderali. Addressing the gathering, A.A. Badshah, zonal manager, Bank of India, Kerala Zone, said the bank is providing latest amenities like SMS and Internet banking to its customers. The bank has 71 branches in the State. Two more branches will be opened at Ottappalam and Chelakkara soon. Justice K.P. Radhakrishna Menon inaugurated a seminar on banking. Oommen Chacko, Chief Manager; M. Bhasi, School of Management of Studies, CUSAT; G.P.C. Nair, chairman, SCMS Group of educational institutions; M.K. Parameswaran, chairman, Kottaram Group of companies; John Philippose, assistant general secretary, Bank of India Officers's Association, South Zone, and T.V. Sivaramakrishnan, general secretary, Bank of India Staff Union, Kerala; spoke. S.P. Pillai, assistant general manager, Bank of India, Kerala Zone, welcomed the gathering.
