Rs 300-crore largesse for Bundelkhand

Mulayam vows to wage a battle against `regressive' policies of the Congress-led UPA Govt.

CHITRAKOOT(UP): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday announced development projects worth Rs 300 crores for the Bundelkhand region of the State.

The projects include construction of an airstrip and bridge at the birthplace of Goswami Tulsidas in Rajapur.

Other projects also pertain to construction of quality highways and renovation of tourist department guest houses in the region.

In 1993, Samajwadi Party and BSP had jointly fought the Assembly elections and the Bundelkhand region has since been a stronghold of the latter.

The region includes Jhansi, Lalitpur, Mahoba, Banda, Chitrakoot, Jalaun and Hamirpur districts of UP.

Vowing to wage a battle against the ``regressive'' policies of the Congress-led UPA, the Chief Minister charged the Centre with failure to keep its federal obligations.

``While, U.P. is following all norms under the federal structure of governance, the Centre is playing politics and falling short of its duty,'' Mr Yadav said addressing party workers on conclusion of the four-day SP training camp here.

He called upon smaller parties to form a joint front against the Central Government. ``Any change of regime cannot materialise without giving a tough fight.''

The Samajwadi Party chief also accused the Centre of playing politics on the issue of the deadly Japanese Encephalitis (JE) gripping the eastern parts of the State.

``We had requested the Prime Minister to grant permission for import of the JE vaccines, but the Centre is yet to act on the matter,'' he claimed.
