NEW DELHI: The Delhi unit Bharatiya Janata Party president Harsh Vardhan on Tuesday termed the Congress Government's drive against faulty electronic electricity meters as a big farce aimed at befooling consumers. Alleging that over nine lakh power consumers were paying through their nose due to faulty meters, he demanded their immediate removal. In a press statement issued here, Dr. Vardhan said unless this was rectified consumers would not get any rseprieve. He urged all power consumers to expose the unholy nexus between the Delhi Government and private power distribution companies. "If the Chief Minister is really concerned about the woes of consumers and is keen on their welfare, she should immediately remove all new meters and replace them with the previous mechanical meters," he demanded. He also lambasted the Delhi Government and the discoms for failing to reduce their technical and commercial losses.
