NEW DELHI: The Union Government has recently given its clearance to the proposal of Haryana Technology Park to set up a sector-specific Information Technology/IT Enabled Services Special Economic Zone just three kilometres from Delhi at Faridabad in Haryana. A unique aspect of this SEZ is that the units located herein will enjoy many tax benefits including exemption from Income Tax, Service Tax, Customs, Central Excise, Central Sales, VAT and other State taxes. The facility -- which will have a built up area of 16.5 lakh square feet, will also have its own in-house customs clearance facility and will be the first in Faridabad. A release issued by Paharpur Business Centre and Software Technology Incubator Park, New Delhi, which is technically assisting the SEZ, said: `The SEZ is expected to add about Rs 1,500 crore per annum to the Gross Domestic Product of the State by way of revenue generated in foreign exchange and units operating from the SEZ will employ about 30,000 people.'' The SEZ, which is coming up on Mathura Road, will be ready for occupation by January 2008, around the time the Badarpur flyover will be completed. Having shopping, residential, parking, server and office areas within it, the SEZ will also ensure that young professionals will not have to travel long distances for work. The SEZ will also possess world class infrastructure facilities including conference and convention centre, recreation centre, high speed Internet connection, telecom with optical fibre lines, uninterrupted power supply, video conferencing rooms, overnight residential rooms, travel agencies, banks, educational facilities and ample parking space for over 1,650 vehicles. Stating that the SEZ will be a LEED -certified environment-friendly "Green Building'', Paharpur Business Centre said the investment of around $ 72 million in the project is being funded through foreign direct investment as also from its own coffers. Once fully operational, the project will provide employment to over 25,000 IT professionals and generate revenues exceeding US $ 200 million every year.
