VIJAYAWADA: The Communist Party of India (CPI) is still holding talks with the Congress and CPI (M) for an electoral alliance in Adilabad, Bellampalli, Khammam, Ellandu, Miryalaguda, Eluru, Chittoor and Ongole municipalities. Once an agreement is reached between them the candidates from the respective parties would withdraw from the race and support candidates of the allies, says CPI State secretary K.Narayana. The CPI leader, who was here on Tuesday to participate in the election campaign, said at a press conference that though State leaders were for an alliance, local leaders were creating obstacles. Though the Congress and the Left could forge an alliance in Vijayawada, the same could not be done in Nuzvid and Jaggayyapet in Krishna district.
Small differences
He said the "small differences" the Congress and Left parties had would be resolved in the latest round of talks. "It is not too late even now," he said. Mr.Narayana said that two CPI leaders who were in the fray as rebels in the city were being given two more days to re-consider their decision. Rebuffing charges that he had changed his stand on a common manifesto and joint campaign by the alliance for the municipal elections, Mr. Narayana said that he had only commented that it was impractical for leaders of the three parties to go around with Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy and APCC president K.Keshava Rao in the helicopter.
