CHENNAI: The Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation has organised a handicrafts exhibition. Inaugurated by actor Satyaraj on Monday, `Cauvery Crafts Bazaar' hosted for the first time in Anna Nagar gives a flavour of variety of handicrafts offered by Karnataka.

Every exhibit displayed at the Parvathi Ramaswamy Hall, 2nd Avenue, Anna Nagar, speaks volumes for the ethnicity of the State. From the famous sandalwood incense sticks, intricately carved sandalwood handicrafts to home decors in bathik panel, the expo showcases an enticing array of products made by local artisans.

The fair, which aims at promoting the crafts of poor artisans, has about 50 stalls with products such as artistic furniture, terracotta items, jewellery and textiles on display. A rosewood swing worth Rs. 3,23,000 is the highlight of the expo. There are also other rosewood furniture such as colourfully designed dining table set worth Rs.1,35,000, tables and teak furniture and shivani wood artefacts.

For painting lovers, the expo offers a range of paintings in rosewood panels. The mirror embroidery works and bags and home decors in Banjara work made by Lambadi tribes of Bellary district are pleasing to the eyes and the pocket. Lacquerware toys made of eco-friendly colours and cotton dolls from Chennapatna will lure children. B.V. Shivamurthy, Deputy General Manager, Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation, said the raw materials were provided to the artisans. Rosewood furniture and sandalwood artefacts were in demand abroad, especially USA.

The exhibition, which provides a discount of 10 per cent, is open between 10 a.m. and 8.30 p.m. till September 25.
