Budding athletes come alive on sports field

The annual athletic meet of Bishop Cotton Boys' School was held on September 9 and September 10. Bipin Gopal Krishna, Secretary to Government, was the chief guest at the junior school meet. He said that good values are imbibed on the sports field. In India, sport has remained an extracurricular activity and the nation can expect to produce athletes, only if sports are made part of the curriculum, he added. Even the rain did not dampen the spirits of the children during the function. A drill "Rise and Shine" by the students of Class 1 was marvellous. Thomas House emerged the overall champion. Omar Farook Nalapad, Javin Leroy D'Souza, Syed Tayyeb Hussain, Sharath. K., Rigdev and Shirish Govind were the individual champions in various categories. Bishop Cotton Boys' School won the Dr. A. Ebenezer Cup in the inter-school 4X100 metre relay for boys, and Baldwin Girls' School won the Indrani Sudarshan Cup in the inter-school 4X100 metre relay for girls. K.R. Srinivasan, Director General of Police, was the chief guest at the middle and senior school athletic meet. He said sports helps in character building and said a person's character is reflected, if he or she is "sportive". Elphick House emerged the overall champion. Prithvitej. D., Prawesh Kumar Singh and Nitin Shivamurthy were the individual champions in various categories.

Teachers' Day

The teaching and non-teaching staff of DVV Gujarati Shala were honoured for their services at a colourful function organised on Teachers' Day. Srimati, a retired teacher of the school, was felicitated. Suresh Babu and Vimala received the Best Teacher Awards. Former Chief Minister Veerappa Moily was the chief guest. He said that each child is a "golden nugget" and it is the job of the teachers to be the "miners". Teachers must be creative enough to bring out the best in every child, he added. He said all children have the will to achieve and there are no "intelligent" or "dull" students. If the right opportunities and encouragement is given to a child, he can achieve greatness. Mukesh. M. Shah, Director, Shreeji Transport Services, presided over the function. He advised students to respect their teachers, but not blindly follow them. "Love them but have your own identity," he said. Principal Shyla Prasad, president of the managing committee Kushal Chand Shah and secretary Ashok Dani, were present.

Junior sports day

Prasiddhi School celebrated its junior sports day recently. Ram Pejawar, retired Air Force pilot was the chief guest. He said nothing is as contagious as enthusiasm and enthusiasm is the genius of sincerity.

Students of the primary school presented the pom-pom drill, while the little ones in pre-primary section added colour to the occasion through their charming butterfly display.

Mathematics laboratory

National Public School, Koramangala, has set up a mathematics laboratory under the guidelines of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). In the maths lab, students get an opportunity to participate in activities using concrete objects. This helps them understand and internalise basic mathematical concepts. Students get hands-on experience in applying concepts such as the complexities of geometry. This helps in removing the phobia for mathematics from young minds and exposes the beauty and joy of the subject.
