HYDERABAD: An engineering student, Sridevi, 20, died reportedly after consuming hair dye in her hostel room at Mehdipatnam on Monday evening. Her cousin Rama Rao, 23, died in a similar manner two days ago at Musheerabad. Reasons behind the death of the two youngsters were not yet known but the police said probe was on to find out if failure in love drove them to resort to the extreme step. Both the victims were close relatives. While Sridevi was a native of Bellampally in Adilabad, Rao hailed from Godavarikhani of Karimnagar. Rao recently joined the MBA course in Vishwa Bharathi College at Kukatpally and was living in a rented house of the same locality. On Saturday, he went to his friend's room in Musheerabad and allegedly consumed hair dye.
Attends funeral
His friends rushed him to Gandhi Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment. Sridevi reportedly went to Godavarikhani to attend Rao's funeral and returned to the city on Monday afternoon. She was in the third year of B.Tech. course in Vasavi Engineering College and was living in a private women's hostel at Mehdipatnam. "Sridevi appeared dejected when she came to the hostel on Monday afternoon and chose not to speak to any of us," the police said quoting an inmate of the hostel, Jyotsna, as saying. She went to her room and shut the doors. Around 4 p.m., Jyotsna went inside only to see Sridevi profusely sweating with her throat and cheeks swollen.
No suicide notes
The hostel management rushed her to a nearby private hospital. As her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to the Government Hospital at Koti. Sridevi died a couple of hours later while undergoing treatment. Neither Sridevi nor Rao left any suicide notes.
