VISAKHAPATNAM: A new oil purification system for the oil reclamation unit in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant was commissioned on Wednesday by VSP Chairman and Managing Director Y. Siva Sagar Rao. The new equipment, provided by Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), was handed over by IOC Executive Director (Lubes) K. Swaminathan to VSP Director (Operations) K.K. Rao. Mr. Siva Sagar Rao said conservation was the buzzword in the world today and due to consistent efforts of VSP collective, the plant could achieve the lowest water consumption which was the best in Indian steel industry. According to a VSP spokesman, around 2.4 lakh litres of lubricating oil is being re-claimed and re-used at VSP every year resulting in a savings of Rs. 1 crore annually. With the new oil purification system, VSP would be able to reclaim an additional 80,000 litres which would help a further savings of about Rs. 30 lakhs per year.
