Mankad issue: ball in Leander's court

NEW DELHI: The non-inclusion of the No.1 ranked tennis player in the country, Harsh Mankad, in the four-member Davis squad has evoked a sharp reaction from the player, as he has reportedly stated that he would report for the World Group play-off tie against Sweden, only if assured that he would play the tie.

Putting the ball in the court of captain Leander Paes, the Secretary General of the All India Tennis Association (AITA), Anil Khanna, stated in a release issued here on Tuesday, that the selectors had made their choice after considering the fact that Harsh Mankad was the No.1 player and that the captain had been given the option to nominate his four-member team, two hours before the draw. — Special Correspondent
