NCC delegation meets Rear Admiral

NEW DELHI: A National Cadet Corps delegation comprising two officers and ten cadets slated to visit Russia called on Rear Admiral Sanjiv Kapoor on Wednesday. The delegation is visiting Russia at the invitation of the Youth Affairs Department of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Government from September 16.

During their stay in Russia, the NCC cadets will visit Moscow and Kursk. They will get an opportunity to interact with members of the First Cadet Corps of Rescuers of Russia.

Move on `disability studies' welcomed

NEW DELHI: The Society for Disability and Rehabilitation Studies (SDRS) has welcomed the action plan of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development to introduce teaching and research of "disability studies'' in universities.

In a statement, Dr. G.N. Karna of SDRS said the plan envisages among other things developing norms for inclusive education, strict enforcement of the 3 per cent reservation for disabled students and promotion of research in disability studies.

Rajbhasha Award for Central Bank of India

NEW DELHI: The Central Bank of India has bagged the first prize in the category of banks/financial institutions at the Indira Gandhi Rajbhasha Awards for 2003-04.

Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil conferred the award on the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the bank, Ms. H. A. Daruwalla, at a function in Vigyan Bhavan on Wednesday. This is the second year in a row that the bank has won the Indira Gandhi Rajbhasha Award.

Toll tax plaza opened

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Wednesday opened a three-lane computerised toll tax plaza at the New Mandoli border to facilitate smooth flow of traffic coming into the Capital from Ghaziabad. Inaugurating the plaza, Mayor Satbir Singh expressed the hope that it would also increase MCD's earnings.

Tyagi is new Kendriya Bhandar chairman

NEW DELHI: S.P. Tyagi has been elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kendriya Bhandar, the country's largest consumer cooperative society network under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.

Applications for PLUS

NEW DELHI: The United States Educational Foundation in India has invited applications for the second batch of the "Partnerships for Learning Undergraduate Studies" (PLUS) scholarship.

PLUS offers scholarships to students to pursue two-year undergraduate studies in the United States for a B.A. degree from select American colleges and universities.
