MADURAI: Though establishment of basic amenities only improved the living conditions of the people, it is education that makes development complete, according to the Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker, K. Kalimuthu. Speaking at a function organised by the Madurai district administration and the Education department to mark the upgrading of nine Government Primary Schools into middle schools at Kallikudy near here on Wednesday, the Speaker said the absolute development of villages hinged upon the establishment of schools and in imparting education to the people. Educational institutions played a key role not only in grooming the young minds but also in promoting the overall development. Realising the importance of schools in fostering education, the State Government established schools and constantly upgraded them, he said. The Government Primary Schools at Chittoor, Maithanpatti, Thennamanallur, Arasapatti, T. Pudur, Mochikulam, Marudankudy, Peikulam and S. Pudur spread across the Kallikudy and Tirumangalam blocks of Madurai district were upgraded into middle schools recently.Presiding over, the Collector, D. Raajendiran, said the Government had been taking measures to provide infrastructure to the schools. The Samayanallur MLA, P. Ponnambalam, the Madurai District Elementary Education Officer, V. Subbian, and the Usilampatti District Education Officer, Aruna Devi, spoke.
