KOCHI: The Society for Prevention of Cruelty against Animals (SPCA), Kochi, intervened to prevent the unauthorised performance of a calf elephant at a Vyttila-based supermarket on Wednesday. Sree Devanarayanan, a four-and-a-half-year-old elephant, was displayed at the patio of the shop. The animal was found tied to a post without much space for it to move about, said K.K. Joseph, inspector of the SPCA. The calf elephant was also not properly fed, which amounts to cruelty under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, Mr. Joseph said.
