Seminar on music

COIMBATORE: The Department of Music of the Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women (Deemed University) will organise a one-day national seminar on the contributions of music artistes of the 20th century, on September 24.

A book on the subject would be released at the seminar. There would be paper presentations and discussions by research scholars, lecturers and musicologists.

Last year, two volumes on the contribution of music artistes of the 18th and 19th centuries, were well received.

The Chancellor of the Deemed University K. Kulandaivel would preside over the function and deliver the inaugural address.

Chairpersons for the discussions would be the Head of the Department of Music of the Tamil University in Thanjavur E. Angayarkanni and the Head of the Department of Music of the University of Madras in Chennai Prameela Gurumoorthy.

The Vice-Chancellor of the Deemed University Saroja Prabhakaran would preside over the valedictory function.
