Speech drowned by pyrotechnics

The official inauguration of the first State Government-sponsored Onam was marked by a spectacular fireworks display at the Durbar Hall Ground in Kochi. The display began as soon as Minister for Tourism K.C. Venugopal began his inaugural address. The awesome pyrotechnics made people look to the sky.

The sound was so loud that sensitive burglar alarms in cars went off, adding to the noise. The Minister continued his speech thinking that the display would end soon. The mike operator even increased the sound of the system but to no avail. By the time the fireworks ended, around 10 minutes later, few people had any idea of what the Minister spoke.
