RAMANATHAPURAM: The District Chamber of Commerce and Industry has criticised the decision of the Southern Railway to postpone the broad gauge conversion work between Manamadurai and Mandapam to March next. In a joint statement, the Chamber president, A. Anwardeen, and its secretary, P. Murugesan, said it was disappointing to the people of Ramanathapuram district to know the announcement of the postponement. The chamber said the project between Madurai and Rameswaram was approved in 1997. But, the Southern Railway had completed conversion work only between Madurai and Manamadurai.
