`Five Star' status for Mayiladuturai school

MAYILADUTURAI: The Bharatidasan University has accorded `Five Star' status to Dharumai Adheenam Gurugnana Sambandar Mission Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Mayiladuturai, under its `School Linkage Scheme' on Tuesday.

The Bharatidasan University has established a School Linkage Cell at the Department of Educational Technology to help improve the quality of education in schools. As part of this service, the university has initiated an assessment and accreditation programme for higher secondary schools within its jurisdiction

The Dharumai Adheenam Gurugnana Sambandar Mission Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Mayiladuturai, sought assessment and accreditation under the scheme and submitted a self study report (SSR) to the university.

The university appointed a committee under the chairmanship of G. Pankajam, former Vice-Chancellor of Gandhiram Rural University, with D. Raja Ganesan, former professor and Head, Department of Education, University of Madras, and A. Muthukrishnan, former Director of School Education, as the peer team to undertake this exercise. R. Karpaga Kumaravel, professor and Head of the Department of Educational Technology, Bharatidasan University, Tiruchi, coordinated the team.

The peer team on Tuesday went through the self study report and visited the school on Monday and Tuesday and interacted with the principal, management, teachers, administrative staff, students, the parents and alumni.

V. Gunasekaran, principal of the school, told The Hindu that on the basis of its in situ observations and interactions, the team had accorded `Five Star' status to the school.
