Special Correspondent

KOCHI: An attempt has been made by a New York-based Insurance company to enter the Guinness Book of World Records by erecting `the biggest umbrella' in the world.

Thirty feet in diameter and seventeen feet tall, the umbrella had been erected on Cherai Beach in Ernakulam district. It weighs 85 kg.

According to sources, the present record for the biggest umbrella is 26 feet in diameter. The umbrella is made of iron and parachute material and it took seven people and six days to finish, says the promoters of Max New York Life.
