VELLORE: Two quacks belonging to Natrampalli who allegedly indulged in illegal termination of pregnancy were arrested in their `clinic' following a decoy operation launched at the instance of Collector S.Gopalakrishnan. The operation carried out on Wednesday was a coordinated effort by the Revenue, Health, Social Welfare and police departments. Following complaints received from the public by District Social Welfare Officer Saroja Thiruvengadam that the two Parvathi and her son, Jothinathan had been indulging in the practice in their `clinic' on R.C.S.Main Road for the last 15 years, resulting in the death of several women, she had informed the Collector who directed the authorities to inspect the `clinic' and take action against the quacks. That the quacks were indulging in the practicewas confirmed through a non-governmental organisation. On Wednesday, two women constables were sent in as decoys. While one posed as a pregnant woman desiring termination of pregnancy, the other pretended to assist her. When Parvathi was readying to inject her,Anu George, Sub-Collector, Tirupattur, Joint Director of Medical Services M.Shanmugam, and Deputy Director of Health Services, Tirupattur, Prakash went in and caught Parvathi and her son red-handed. Natrampalli police then arrested the two and produced them before the Judicial Magistrate-4, Tirupattur who remanded them to 15 days custody.
