`YSR promoting family rule'

Staff Reporter

Probe into illegal sand quarrying sought

KADAPA: Telugu Desam Party leaders on Thursday alleged that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had a chequered history of betraying Congress in several elections and has no moral right to criticise his predecessor N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Condemning Congress leaders' charges, Telugu Desam Party district president R. Ramesh Kumar Reddy and State secretary, S. Goverdhan Reddy asserted that Mr. Naidu quit Congress after losing the 1983 Assembly elections.

Denying the charges that Mr. Naidu amassed wealth while in power, they questioned if Dr. Reddy was a millionaire by birth. Accusing Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy of promoting family rule, they alleged that YSR's cousin Y.S. Manohar Reddy was tipped for Pulivendula municipal vice-chairmanship in a bid to render the municipal chairperson (BC women) to be elected a `dummy'.

Sand quarrying

Reiterating Mr. Naidu's charge that a Congress candidate of Rajampet resorted to illegal sand quarrying, the TDP leaders advised the Rajampet MP A. Sai Prathap to head an enquiry team.
