Conman's associate held

CHENNAI:
The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police on Wednesday took custody of Pavulraj, the main associate of `Ideal' Subramanian, who allegedly cheated several persons by taking money from them on the assurance of arranging big loans.
Police said Pavulraj surrendered before a magistrate in the George Town Court last week. The CCB personnel took Pavulraj under their custody for three days from Wednesday.
Councillor held
The Chennai Corporation Councillor for Division 39, T. Panneerselvam, was arrested at Ripon Buildings, the civic headquarters, on Thursday when he doused himself in fuel oil and threatened to commit suicide. He was detained at the Periamet police station.
Mr. Panneerselvam, who joined the AIADMK after winning the civic elections on a DMK ticket, staged a walk out at the last council meeting after launching a diatribe against the Corporation Commissioner.
