Shop to market organic agricultural produce opened

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Plantrich, an organic shop, has been opened in the Agricultural Wholesale Market at Anayara here by a group of agricultural graduates. The shop was inaugurated by Director of Agriculture P.S. Sasi at a function presided over by managing director of Plantrich Bijumon Kurien. Additional Director of Agriculture P.P. Gopi, chairman of the Agro Industries Corporation E.J. Augusthy and Kurien E.Kalathil felicitated.

The shop started off with procuring organic agricultural produce from farmers and marketing them under the brand name `Only organic.' The list of organic produce that the shop markets includes coffee, tea, ginger, cardamom, vanilla, pepper, vegetables and fruits. Plantrich procures the spices from societies in Wayanad and Idukki, vegetables from Kottayam and Thrissur and pounded organic rice from Kuttanad. Plantrich proposes to market organic fertilisers and pesticides to farmers and impart training to them in farm management, increasing productivity, tending crops and taking up new methods of cultivation in the coming days. It also plans to create new job opportunities.

The representatives of Plantrich will visit the farms and give their advice after resorting to crop inspection and soil testing.
