Santiago: Saba Anjum's brace took India to a comprehensive 4-1 win against Canada in the women's Junior World Cup hockey tournament at the Club Deportivo Manquehue here. India had drawn its first match 1-1 in Pool `B' with South Africa. India did not let Canada settle, as it went into the lead within four minutes when Jasjeet Kaur Handa sounded the boards with a neat deflection from the mid-circle. Even before the Canadians could come to terms with the reverse, Sarita Lakra buttressed the lead with another deflection from a penalty corner.
Maintaining the pressure
Despite the lead, the Indians never relaxed their grip and kept the pressure on their opponents. Saba then struck two blows and Canada could not recover thereafter. Saba fired a field goal in the 17th minute and then scored from a penalty corner in the 26th minute as India went into the breather with a flattering 4-0 advantage. It, however, could not add to its tally after play resumed while Canada got its solitary goal through Karen Mann who converted a penalty corner in the 69th minute. India plays Germany in the next match. Germany, meanwhile, overcame South Africa 5-3 in another Pool `B' match. Other results: Pool `A': Netherlands drew with U.S. 2-2; England bt Zimbabwe 13-0; Pool `B': Germany bt South Africa 5-3; Pool `C': South Korea bt Belarus 3-0; Argentina bt Scotland 2-0; Pool `D': Australia bt China 2-0; Spain drew with Chile 2-2.
