ALAPPUZHA: Electioneering of the United Democratic Front and the Left Democratic Front in the district is likely to get a boost with top leaders of both coalitions beginning campaigning. The LDF leaders will begin theirs on Sunday and those of the UDF on Monday. Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan will address public meetings of the LDF on Sunday. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy; Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala; Minister for Tourism K.C. Venugopal; and the Congress leader V.M. Sudheeran will speak at UDF meetings on Monday. Mr. Achuthanandan will begin his campaign by addressing a meeting of the LDF at Poochakkal at 9 a.m. on Sunday, followed by eight other meetings the same day. He will speak at Mararikkulam at 11 a.m., at Muthukulam at 2 p.m. and at Mulakkuzha at 6 p.m. Mr. Chandy will begin his campaign by addressing a meeting in Mavelikkara at 4 p.m. on Monday. He will address eight other meetings that day, concluding at 9 p.m. in Alappuzha. Mr. Chennithala will address 22 meetings on Monday, beginning from 8.30 a.m. at Chettikulamgara and concluding at 8 p.m. at Aroor. Mr. Venugopal will address nine meetings on Monday and eight on Thursday. Mr. Sudheeran will speak at seven meetings on Monday, eight on Tuesday and two on Thursday. Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan will address nine LDF meetings on Monday. The first meeting is at Krishnapuram at 9 a.m. and the last at Cherthala at 6 p.m. The CPI(M) Polit Bureau member S. Ramachandran Pillai will address five public meetings on Tuesday. The CPI(M) Central Committee member M.A. Baby would speak at various places from Sunday to Thursday. The campaign meetings of CPI(M) district secretary G. Sudhakaran will begin at Ramankary at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
