Everton loses

Paris: Everton's European dreams were ruthlessly crushed by Dinamo Bucharest in the first round of the UEFA Cup.

David Moyes' Everton side, which has slumped to third from bottom of the Premiership and was also knocked out of the Champions League in the qualifying round by Villarreal, was humiliated 5-1 by the Romanians.

While it will need a miracle to overturn the deficit in the second leg in two weeks' time, Bolton will also face a tough battle to stay in the competition after needing a last-minute goal to beat Lokomotiv Plovdiv 2-1 at home.
