TTD makes offerings to Ganesh temple

TIRUPATI: A pair of silk vasthrams and temple prasadam were on Thursday presented to Lord Varasiddhi Vinayaka, the presiding deity of the Kanipakkam temple near Chittoor.

They were presented to the temple as a gesture of goodwill from the TTD on the eve of the on-going Vinayaka Chavithi Brahmothsavam in Kanipakkam. - Staff Reporter

New facility at Chandragiri Fort

TIRUPATI: Tourists can further explore the Chandragiri Fort, as the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has decided to throw open for public the second floor of the Raja Mahal, located in the fort compound.

Nellore: Forest officials in Venkatagiri range, seized red sanders worth Rs. 9 lakhs in two different incidents on Thursday.

Three killed in road accidents

Nellore: Three persons lost their lives in various incidents in the district on Friday.

At Venkatadripalem village of Vinjamoor mandal, a 20-year old youth succumbed to injuries after his cycle was hit by the rear portion of a tipper, whereas at Narasareddikandriga village of Naidupet mandal, a cleaner died on the spot, when a lorry rammed into a stationary lorry.

In another incident at Vangallu of Sangam mandal, a 41-year old woman, who earlier received burn injuries, died at the Government Hospital, Nellore. - Staff Reporter

Man fatally run over

TIRUMALA: An unidentified youth aged 22 years was killed on the spot when a sand-laden private tripper knocked him down at the fire station behind the Ram Bagaicha guesthouses in the wee hours of Friday.

The incident occurred when the deceased was trying to cross the road. - Staff Reporter

Kotla's cousin joins TDP

KURNOOL: Kotla Vamsidhar Reddy, cousin of the MP, Kotla Jayasurya Prakasa Reddy, joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). Mr. Vamsidhar Reddy hails from Laddagiri, native of Kotla family, which would offer a platform for the TDP in the village. - Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR: Virasam leaders -- P. Varavara Rao and G. Kalyan Rao -- were granted bail by the Additional District and Sessions Court here on Friday. Weaver ends life

ANANTAPUR: The burden of debts allegedly forced a weaver to commit suicide at Medapuram village in Chennekothapalli mandal on Friday. According to information reaching here, weaver G. Bhaskar Reddy (25) has debts to the tune of over Rs. 1 lakh. - Staff reporter

Fake notes seized

KADAPA: The Proddatur police busted a fake currency racket by apprehending two persons and recovering fake notes valued at Rs. 5.50 lakhs. Pagidala Ravi Kumar of Ongole district and Yapaneni Hussainayya of Kurnool were arrested when they tried to pass on the fake currency to a person of Duvvur, Y. Nagi Reddy, SP, said. - Staff reporter

Gold trader robbed

KADAPA: A gang of highway robbers relieved a gold merchant of Coimbatore, Nanda Kumar, of Rs. 4 lakhs and gold ornaments weighing about one kg valued at Rs. 4 lakhs on Proddatur road, near Yerraguntla town, on Thursday night. He was carrying the ornaments given by gold traders in Proddatur to Coimbatore, the police said. - Staff reporter
