COIMBATORE: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) wants legislation passed in Parliament to facilitate the building of a Ram temple in Ayodhya. While the VHP respected the court, it felt the need for such legislation, Praveen Togadia, its international general secretary, told presspersons here on Friday. In a veiled reference to the dilution of the stand on the temple during the National Democratic Alliance rule, Mr. Togadia said everyone knew who had "deserted" Hindu society on this issue. They had learnt a lesson in the last elections. "But the VHP will not allow any party to use the Ram Temple as an issue in the next elections. We appreciate parties who support it and not exploit it. There must be consistency of ideology during both victory and defeat," Mr. Togadia said. "Wait for one or two years; we have a plan, a target (on the building of the temple). We will declare it at an appropriate time."
