THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Union Minister of State for Planning M.V. Rajasekharan has described Mitraniketan, a centre for promoting alternative development in rural areas, situated at Vellanad, as one of the leading voluntary organisations in the country. Mr. Rajasekharan was speaking after inaugurating the year-long Golden Jubilee celebrations at the centre on Thursday. He lauded K. Viswanathan, director, Mitraniketan, for starting the centre inspired by the ideals of Raveendranath Tagore and Mahatma Gandhi. The Minister later given away prizes to the winners of various cultural and sports competitions organised as a part of the celebrations. Teachers from Mitraniketan who won national awards were also honoured on the occasion.
