Three months' imprisonment for employing child

Staff Correspondent

DAVANGERE: The Judicial Magistrate First Class at Harpanahalli has awarded three months imprisonment to a man for employing a child at his garage.

The District Labour Officer in a press release here on Friday said that the court had awarded three months imprisonment to Basavaraj for employing a nine-year-old boy.

The Labour office had earlier conducted a raid and filed a complaint against the owner of the garage.

The Labour officer said that this was the first time a person has been awarded imprisonment for employing child labourers in the State since from 1986, when the Child Labour Act came into existence.

Cautioned

In the wake of the judgement, the officer cautioned the owners of hotels, bars and restaurants, puffed rice factories and others not to encourage child labour by employing children.
