JD(U) charge against Rahul Gandhi

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Janata Dal (United) has said that the Congress MP, Rahul Gandhi's interview to Tehelka weekly on the "sorry state of affair in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh" was "formal'' and that "there was nothing casual about it.''

Referring to the weekly's statement, the JD(U) said that Mr. Gandhi had "spoken the truth by mistake... ." But the subsequent statement by the Congress — "in a damage control exercise'' — claiming that the interview had misrepresented a casual conversation had "exposed" the Congress.

The interview coming ahead of the Assembly elections in Bihar has also ruffled the feathers of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, which is in ally of the Congress at the Centre and had been ruling the State for last 15 years.

"The Congress and its leader Sonia Gandhi have always regarded the said weekly as the torch-bearers of truth. The nation has every right to know what they think of it now,'' the JD(D) said.
