ALAPPUZHA: The body of S.L. Puram Sadanandan who died at Cherthala on Friday night was cremated on the premises of his house at S.L. Puram on Saturday afternoon. Sadanandan had been undergoing treatment for the last several months for liver problems. Jayasoma, eldest son of Sadanandan, set fire to the pyre. A large number of people participated in the funeral. Those who were present included SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan, K.S. Manoj, MP; T.M. Thomas Isaac, MLA; Binoy Viswam, MLA; CPI (M) leaders M.A. Baby and G. Sudhakaran, film actors Dileep, Rajan P. Dev and Vijayaraghavan, and film directors K.G. George, Shaji Kailas and Fazil.
Condolences
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy described S.L. Puram Sadanandan as the author of several works which proclaimed the strength and beauty of Malayalam theatre and cinema. In a message issued here on Saturday, he said that Sadanandan was able to retain the warmth and dynamism of life which marked his initial works till the very end. Mr. Chandy attributed it to the writer's uncompromising dedication to creativity. The recognition which the people gave to his characters was the greatest recognition to be given to him, the Chief Minister said in his message. The Ministers for Cultural Affairs, Health and Revenue also condoled the playwright's demise.
