SHIMLA: Seven persons were killed and four seriously injured while over 12 people were marooned as heavy rains wrought havoc in several parts of the State, official sources said on Saturday. Normal life was disrupted in Palamapur and Dehra areas of Kangra district as continued downpours caused house collapse, road breaches and damage to bridges with rivers in spate. Most parts of Himachal experienced moderate to heavy rains since Friday evening with Kasol in Kullu district recording the highest at 158 mm. The higher reaches of Kinnaur, including Rohtang pass and Dhauladhar mountain ranges, experienced moderate snowfall. Two women and an equal number of children were buried alive and four persons seriously injured when a swollen nallah near village Thalla, near Palampur, changed course and the gushing waters toppled a house, the sources said. An old woman and her son were buried alive in another house collapse at village Bairi Ghatta in Kangra district, they said. One person was swept away in Baner khud in the Haripur area. Nearly 12 people, who were grazing cattle on the banks of river Beas, were marooned as the water level rose suddenly in village Jakota in Kangra district, sources said. A vital bridge over Sukhad Khud in the Jaisinghpur area of the district was damaged and traffic suspended. Water entered several houses in the Yol Camp area provoking protests from residents who alleged that the construction of wall in the cantonment area had hampered the flow of water. A State roadways bus sunk in deep slush near Dhar in Kangra but all the passengers were rescued.
