MADURAI: For those on the lookout for quality computers but are ignorant of features such as the system's configuration, CAMS Computer Expo 2005 organised by the Computer Dealers Association at Hotel Fortune Pandiyan in Madurai has a satisfying answer. The products on display at the three-day exhibition, from laptops to desktop computers and processors ranging from Intel Pentium to AMD Athlon, tempted the visitors. "When it comes to performance, the AMD Athlon 64 processor is superior to other processors in the fray. Hence, we are trying to popularise it among the public," said T.S. Kumaran, service engineer, AMD Xperience Zone, Madurai. The PCs at the exhibition come with a lot of freebies and special discounts.. But, what attracted the visitors at the exhibition was the Apple Computers counter, where the company put on sale a central processing unit (CPU) weighing just 1.3 kg, and which the makers claim excels in speed and performance. "It is the latest addition to the Apple Mackintosh list of computers," said G.R. Narayanan, partner, ePlus Plus Computers, Madurai. The LCD monitors of eSys Company proved to be cost effective as their package for the basic model along with the CPU started at Rs.17,990 plus tax. The exhibition also had digital copiers, colour scanners, communication systems including telephones, fax machines, EPABX systems and LCD projectors on display. Various financial institutions had put up their stalls to give customers spot loans. The Epson Thermal Printer was impressive. "The printer is ideal for receipt printing. Printing 48 lines per second, it is rated very high by the companies," said G. Narayana Swamy, Manager-Technical, Priya Computers. "Computers have become a necessity. But, for people like us who did not know where to go and what to buy, an exhibition such as this has been very useful," said C. Ramaswamy, accountant at the District Treasury. The exhibition will come to a close on Sunday. It will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
