Onion supply through rythu bazaars, fair-price shops

  • Consumers urged to approach officials in case of any violation
  • Distribution of ration cards stopped due to poll code
  • Delay in receiving phone bills other issues figured at the meeting

VISAKHAPATNAM: Joint Collector Sandeep Kumar Sultania has urged consumers to know their rights and complain to the officials concerned in the event of any violation of consumer rights.

Addressing a meeting of the District Consumer Rights Protection Council on Saturday, he said that the distribution of ration cards was stopped due to municipal elections as per the directions of the State Election Commission.

On the supply of onions, Mr. Sultania said that when there was shortage of onions in the market and their price increased, the district administration brought them from outside and was supplying onions through 450 counters at Rs.7 per kg, including in fair-price shops and rythu bazaars.

    Gas supply

When members wanted onions to be supplied in rural areas as well and deletion of the rule that LPG cylinders should be supplied within 21 days of booking since they were available in plenty, the Joint Collector responded positively.

Other issues raised during the meeting were delay in receiving telephone bills and failure to issue receipt by cable TV operators. Mr. Sultania said that steps would be taken after discussing the issues with the officials concerned.

Civil Supplies Officer (Urban) M.G.L. Narasimha Rao, CSO (Rural) Roop Kumar and consumer activists Chapa Kumar and Kurmanatha Rao attended the meeting.
