CPI to ally with LJP
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI:
The Communist Party of India on Sunday announced that it would go with the Lok Jan Shakti Party and other Left parties in the coming Assembly elections in Bihar polls by offering a secular alternative.
"We are opposed to the misrule of the RJD and that is the reason why we have formed a secular alliance. I do not question the secular credentials of either the Congress or the RJD but the RJD has been in power for 15 years. A secular government must also perform... our assessment is that an overwhelming section of people want a change," CPI general secretary A.B. Bardhan told correspondents.
Talks with CPI (M-L)
Mr. Bardhan said talks were on with the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) and the Samajwadi Party and that the alliance would contest all the seats. The final seat-sharing arrangement would be announced before the notification for the first phase is issued on September 23.
