DEHRA DUN: The higher reaches of Uttaranchal on received moderate snowfall on Sunday while heavy rains continued to lash the lower areas of the hill state for the third ssconsecutive day claiming four lives, including those of two kids. Several areas remained cut off from the rest of the country due to landslides even as two children were washed away in different areas of Udham Singh Nagar district following flooding to the heavy downpour, one person died in Naini Tal district and another in Almora. Snowfall was reported from the higher reaches of Nanda Devi and nearby mountains in Chamoli district heralding cold conditions in the area. ccording to the Meteorological department director, Anand Sharma, rains may continue in the State tomorrow also. The lower reaches and plains of the State were lashed by heavy rains which triggered landslides blocking the Chardham yatra route at several places. The administration has pressed in bulldozers at several places to clear the debris. Life was completely thrown out of gear in the capital city also with non-stop rains lashing it for the third consecutive day today. PTI
