HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president, K. Keshava Rao, advised the party leaders in the districts to persuade rebel candidates to withdraw from the contest and support the official nominees. "Try to convince them. Go to their houses if they still insist and ensure that they retire from the race," was Dr. Rao's advice to leaders of Warangal, Krishna, East Godavari, Guntur, Chittoor, Kurnool, Nellore and Visakhapatnam districts during his hour-long videoconference here on Sunday.
Suspension sought
Even as the leaders from Krishna demanded suspension of rebel nominees, Dr. Rao asked them to make one last attempt. The leaders said there were 10 rebels in Nuzvid municipality and pointed out that the going was tough in Pedana. The Chittoor Congress MLAs - G. Muddukrishnama Naidu (Puttur), S. C. V. Naidu (Srikalahasti) and Venkatramana (Tirupati) - exuded confidence that the party would fare well in the district. Leaders from Nandyal wanted a minority leader to campaign in the town in view of significant presence of Muslims.
