PONDICHERRY: Fifty children from the tsunami-affected coastal villages studying in higher secondary schools in Pondicherry will get a scholarship of Rs. 800 a month for the next five years. At a function on Monday, Lt. Governor M.M Lakhera gave the scholarship for the next six months in advance for the selected 50 students, who lost their parents in the December 26 tragedy. The students were selected based on their academic performance. The money would be distributed every quarterly through the Education department, the Governor said. Speaking on the occasion, the Education Secretary, B V Selvaraj, said if need be the administration would work out means to help these students to join professional courses. The scholarship has come from Him Jyoti Foundation, founded by Uttaranchal Governor Sudarshan Agarwal.
