PALAKKAD: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State general secretary K. Krishnadas has said that his party will support anyone who stands for development, irrespective of their political affiliations, in the local bodies elections. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, he said the party's core group meetings to be held on September 22 would take a decision on supporting such candidates. The local bodies elections need not be fought on the political platform, it should be fought on the development plank. This has been practised by the BJP in Palakkad municipality and in some other parts of the State. When pointed out that the BJP's support to the Congress and the CPI(M) in Palakkad municipality in the last two terms did not bring about much development, Mr. Krishnadas said that the matter had to be seriously considered by the district unit. He alleged that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front were supporting minority fundamentalist outfits such as the National Development Front (NDF) and the People's Democratic Party (PDP). If the LDF is sincere in its fight against fundamentalism of both the minority and majority communities it should openly say that it will not take the support of the PDP or the NDF in the polls. But in some parts of Malappuram these two organisations are openly working for the LDF, he said.
