Devayani, Venu Aravind get awards

Awards for television serials announced "We also honour people with professional brilliance in education, health care, art and culture by giving them awards."

CHENNAI: Pace Charitable Trust, a service organisation, on Saturday gave away Pace Awards for 2004 for television serials.

M. Jaganathan, founder, Pace Charitable Trust and Senior General Manager, Tafe, said the trust was extending a helping hand to the needy. "We also honour people with professional brilliance in education, health care, art and culture by giving them awards."

S. Karuppaih Pandian, bureaucrat, lauded the efforts of the trust in helping the needy. "Parents must not influence their children to study what they want them to study. They should leave it to the choice of the children."

Every year the Pace cine awards were given to film personalities and this year it was the turn of the television serials.

The award list includes best actress Devayani (Kolangal), actor Venu Aravind (Selvi), actress special award: Manjari (Kolangal), best actor special award: Ajay (Kolangal), character actress: Nalini (Kolangal), character actress special award: Srividya (Nimmadhi), new face: Divyadharshini (Selvi), story, screenplay and director: V. Thiruselvam (Kolangal), dance master: `Kadhal' Kandas (Metti Oli and Mugurtham), dialogue writer: Bhaskar Sakthi (Kolangal), cameraman: Philips S. Vijaykumar (Kolangal), producer: D. Srinivasan (Kolangal) Lifetime Achievement Award: Sathyapriya.

S. Ramachandran, MD, Keyem Engineering Enterprise, K. Pannerselvam and P. Subramanian of the Trust spoke.
